A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young
4.0

This story is told in first person dual point of view by Hallie and Chris interspersed with transcriptions of video diary entries by Chris from the space station and equivalent email diary entries from Hallie. As a people pleaser, I found the character of Hallie to be relatable to a younger me. With age and experience, I learned to use the word “no” so it was both relatable and frustrating to watch Hallie go through the same process while taking on too much, dealing with the stress of it all and receiving little to no recognition (and even complaints) when others took advantage of her nature.

I enjoyed the complexities of Chris and his feelings about being a leader to the Mexican American community while feeling disconnected due to his actual upbringing. There were some great supporting characters as well. I loved Chris’s Aunt Richelle who described herself as “goddamn Yoda”. I loved the friendship that developed between Hallie and Chris both in real life and as they learned about each other through their “diaries”. Recommended
