oof. such a deeply detestable protagonist that it was a pretty difficult read. not necessarily a bad thing as it makes you confront feelings of frustration, discomfort, and, especially towards the end, complete disgust however it definitely isn’t an easy read. having said this, the themes of colonialism, of power and responsibility, of sexism and of so much more that yanagihara illustrates here are done so well and the book itself is written so beautifully
