The reader gets dropped in the middle of Batwoman's story, but there's enough to fairly quickly catch up. The trouble is that there are a lot of plot points that either develop quickly or are left hanging, presumably to be filled in from earlier stories or later stories, so I felt that this volume is incomplete. Having watched the first season of the Batwoman tv series, I already knew some of the relationships, but would probably have been a bit confused otherwise. There are some terrific moments in the book, such as the handling of Kate's sexuality, especially in regards to her military service. The artwork is excellent, although I think Williams has gotten better more recently. Some of the layouts here are a little confusing.
