i made it through like 80% of this book before dnf'ing it and realized if i don't like it by now i probably will not like the last 20%
honestly i'm ready to get my asshole ripped to shreds for this opinion but i didn't hate this book so much as i felt disappointed? with all the great reviews this series has, i felt pressured to like it and i really just... didn't.
- the magic system/concept was interesting but the execution fell flat (i feel like i say this for so many books lol)
- i didn't care for any of the characters, they felt so shallow. i couldn't stand lilah with how much she put down other women
- since this book was published under V.E. Schawb, she published it as "adult" and this just felt so incredibly juvenile
- idk there was something off about the writing. i don't have a problem with V.E. Schwab bc I enjoyed Addie, but idk maybe something with the pacing? it felt slow yet the entire book is all action. i feel like there was so much dialogue and inner dialogue but nothing was happening
i honestly wanted to love this as much as everyone else did but the story didn't grab me and i didn't connect with it at all. needless to say i will not be continuing with the rest of this series lol but will be giving Vicious a try sometime in the future
