Besides the above info, I liked this book because it touched on a lot on Indian culture and history.
Perveen is Bombay’s only “lady solicitor” and is living with her parents and practicing law with her father.
Because she is an unattached woman, there are lots of cultural rules for her, where it’s proper for her to go, who she can speak to.
India is at the cusp of independence and this plays a part in the setting for the story,
