paleflyer 's review for:
The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
by Victor Hugo
It's a hard one to get into. "A Birds-Eye View of Paris" is enough to move anyone to put the book away; I made it through that tedious chapter only by reading it aloud.
However! If you can make it through some of the more Hugo chapters (thankfully less numerous than in Les Mis), you find a marvelous book, full of tragic love and tragedy. Not what I expected at all, since my only familiarity with this story was the very changed Disney film.
I loved it! I'm a sucker for a beautiful tragedy.
