Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver
3.75
dark funny tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I want to give this a 4 mainly for the thrilling aspect of killers chasing after serial killers for sport but I’ll stick with my 3.75 for now. I’m slowly finding my way back into romance and I don’t think I realized how fast the characters were falling for each other. Also the plot seemed to abandon that they were both serial killers for a moment. This could also just be me but I wanted more backstory for both of them.  I’m not sure how I felt about the ending. The epilogue is what made me crave more (again the thrilling parts of this book are what kept me mostly) There are two more books in this series that I’m considering reading if it unveils anymore about these two or if it abandons them entirely as the next book seems to focus on two other characters from this first installment. All in all it isn’t the worst book I’ve read. Maybe a tad sloppy in terms of character development and backstory, but it was an okay read for the most part.

Can’t leave this review without failing to mention this is my first time reading such intense love scenes. I’ve read intimate scenes before in other genres but these were pages upon pages (one scene seems to go for about two pages but that’s a given since there is a constant POV switch throughout the book) You can feel the tension before you get to the first scene in this book… however I feel there are about 2 out of the 3 scenes in this book that seemed like they were thrown in here randomly to add the element of “spice”.
