Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

2.0

Where's even the thrill, I would ask. The story and characters fell flat to me and I kept waiting for a turning point in the plot but it just never happened. As she lived her entire life alone in nature, I expected Kya to struggle more in her interactions with other people instead of just highlighting her abandonment issues and lonesome attitude. Another disappointment is that how it was often brought up how important girl friendships or sisterhood for Kya in the earlier part of the book but neither ever showed up. The defense that Kya had in the end was all men. During Tate's arc or perspective it also threw me off that Kya was described in the "Not like other girls" trope.
