The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
4.0

I loved 'The Metamorphosis' in its entirely bizarre and unique outlook on the significance of change. Although a short narrative, the sequence of events that take place from the morning Gregor wakes up as an insect demonstrates the disorder and collective anxiety faced by the family as a result of this unexpected occurrence. I think Kafka's lack of explanation regarding why Gregor transformed into an insect solidifies the horror of an unexpected event, and the misunderstanding of Gregor's circumstance makes for a tragic tale overall. It is really well written, and is definitely one of my favourite stories I've read this year.
