Scythe by Neal Shusterman

5.0

This futuristic scifi was a very engaging, thoughtful and well-written story. It was also very emotionally heavy, with themes of death, dying, mortality (and immortality), ethics, murder and sometimes suicide. Despite these heavy themes, the plot kept going at a steady pace not to leave you alone with the darkness for too long, and showing you light in between.

The characters, interactions and world were all built very well. Even the small amount of romantic subplot felt natural, not forced like in many YA stories.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you are able to handle heavy emotional these. I have always enjoyed Shusterman's creative stories and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
