Wales history. A Timeless Journey from Celtic Origins to Modern Great Britain. by History Brought Alive

fast-paced

2.0

I was eager to dive into this book. However, much to my disappointment, it did not live up to my expectations.

To begin with, there were some positive aspects to the book. It was a quick and easy read, with a fast-paced narrative that kept me engaged throughout. The layout was well-structured, with short chapters that were easy to follow.

Someone who doesn't know anything about Wales or it's history night find this book great as an introduction.

But unfortunately, for someone with even a basic understanding of Welsh history, this book did not provide any new knowledge or inspiration. It merely skimmed over the surface of pre-Celtic Wales, without providing any in-depth analysis or insightful commentary.

One of the most glaring issues with the book was the author's lack of proper research and references. The book relied heavily on Wikipedia as a source of information, which is not a reliable or credible source. Additionally, there were references made to a historian named "Historian, 2023" that could not be found in the bibliography. This lack of proper research and referencing left me wondering if I was reading an AI-generated book.

Further, many of the claims made in the book were not backed up by any references or sources. While some of the information seemed accurate, there were other points that I had never heard before and would have liked to research further, but there was no way to do so.

The author also attempted to cover too much ground in a short book, resulting in a lack of depth and detail on important topics. Many significant events and developments in modern-day Wales were completely overlooked, such as the Future Generations Act, which is a political first and has caught the attention of other countries looking to create similar acts or the huge investment in public transport which is currently taking place right across Wales where the whole south Wales railway is being electrified and with massively updated rolling stock being introduced.

In conclusion, while the book was easy to read and had a decent structure, its lack of proper research and referencing, as well as its oversimplification of important topics, left much to be desired. I appreciate the opportunity to read the ARC copy through BookSirens, and I thank the author and publishers for allowing me to do so. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it.
