My Secret Sister by Helen Edwards, Jenny Lee Smith

emotional hopeful reflective sad medium-paced

3.5

As is usual for these memoirs of "ordinary people" this was not particularly well-written, but far from the worst example I've read.

Particularly interesting for me given my family's connection to the areas in the book, particularly Whitley Bay, at the time Helen and Jenny were growing up.

This was actually a re-read for me, and it still shocks me that, even in that time (50s and 60s) nobody stepped in to do anything about the abuse Helen was suffering.

I found the last few chapters, once Helen and Jenny had learned about each other, rushed and therefore at times confusing, but on the whole this was an interesting and emotional read
