Moonlight and the Pearler's Daughter by Lizzie Pook
Did not finish book. Stopped at 14%.
I stopped at the conversation with the seargent when Eliza was frantically asking them to call off the search for her father's alleged murderer because she believes he wasn't murdered?? Like c'mon Eliza let's not be silly. You can't know with enough certainty that your father wasn't murdered to be asking the cops to STOP looking for a murderer who could be on the loose. You can search for him while they look for the murderer though. They're not going to go on a sea expedition to find your father anyway. Then I looked up reviews that said this author really focused a lot on Eliza encountering abused/mistreated/enslaved POC (which is definitely needed and important but the reviews mentioned this was more heavily featured than the actual plot), and she didn't really do anything in the story but just be there while her male companions did everything. I was already bored so I stopped there.
