I read this to my 10 year old, My 10 year old, who enjoyed it immensely, even spending a solid chunk of his Saturday hearing the last several chapters all in one go since he didn't want to wait a few more nights to hear the ending read one chapter at a time. And the moment we finished this book, he went to fetch another of Hiaasen's works to be our next nightly reading.
Now, while as an adult it may not be a work I found to be terribly compelling, I do very much like how it held my son's interest, even over the course of a few weeks. Not only did he enjoy the story, but he was inspired to go learn more about some of the things we read about in the book, which is always a bonus in my book---pun intended.
