Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

3.25

I go through phases with the genres I am reading; a few years back, I mainly read science fiction and fantasy. Lately, I tend to read books light in plots and heavy in emotion. "Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow" is the intersection of both of those genres. While it is far from science fiction, the novel’s backdrop of videogame creation and the way that the setting shapes the style in which the book is written gives it that exciting adventure feeling I love about science fiction. But the true magic of this book lies in the friendship between Sam and Sadie taking center stage. Western culture tends to place romantic relationships at the top of some imagined hierarchy and relegates friendship to a placeholder until "true love" is found. It was so touching and relatable to read a story of two people recognizing that the most significant relationship of their lives is a platonic one.
