Ok- real talk. I went into this with low expectations because I’m not really a fantasy gal at all. I read it as a kid (Harry Potter, Inkheart, Eragon) and then never really found any that interested me as an adult. But I had a few people recommend it, so I gave the audiobook a go since I could get it from my library and could return it if I wasn’t into it.

Wow! I was sleeping on this for sure. I enjoyed the storyline, the adventure, the suspenseful moments, the dragons, Violence (my favourite nickname to date)- all of it. I giggled, I gasped, I cried, I wanted to scream at some points, and was left hanging at the end with that cliffhanger. I related a lot to Violet in terms of feeling underestimated at times. I feel like people often look at me and think that I’m not strong enough or that I’ll break because of the way I’m built. And so, much like Violet, I feel like I have to compensate with other things to make people believe that I can in fact do things and achieve them. Needless to say I really enjoyed rooting for her and seeing her prove people wrong left and right.

Will it be for everyone? No. But if you’re into adventure, sassy dragons, romance, not always knowing who to trust and rooting for the underdog, you’ll enjoy this story. And now I patiently wait for my turn with the Iron Flame audiobook.
