I really wanted to like this book, I really did. This may be worth a revisit, but who am I kidding, I dnf'd after about 100 pages.
The long and short of it was that nothing piqued my interest within the first 5 chapters of this book. Which for me is never a good sign. As a matter of fact those 5 chapters felt like nothing really happened and that I reread the same ideas and statements and jokes over and over again. It just felt really dry and pedantic.
Wallace at this point in the novel was not a character I particularly cared about or empathized with, though I'm certain that would have changed by the end of the book (no one can be an ass for almost 400 pages, right?). However that being said, nothing really endeared me to continue reading to learn more about Wallace or the other characters.
So maybe it's me, maybe I'm the asshole?
