don’t get me wrong; this book is an important piece of literature, especially now. but looking at it objectively, i think the writing was lacking.
i couldn’t find myself really enjoying the inner thoughts/monologue of the main character. she honestly annoyed me at times. the writing style was odd ?? i honestly could not get behind it at all. and, finally, this book left me feeling lost a lot. there were a lot of gaps & holes in the plot that were never filled in or explained and it was hard to follow along with a story that i wasn’t able to fully contextualize.
all in all, i see why this story is important and i agree fully with its message. but, stylistically, it is definitely lacking.
also, the way that dialogue was written in this book threw me all the way off. at many points, there was no punctuation or double quotation marks to indicate when a character was speaking. because of that, it was hard to decipher when a dialogue was completed. and then, at other points, the double quotation marks were present. so ????? i’m just overall confused on what the author wanted to convey with this.
