The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America by Carol Anderson

challenging dark informative tense fast-paced

4.0

The topics in this book were incredibly heavy, but Carol Anderson wove them together in a way that was unapologetic, clear, and profound. My favorite aspect of this book was Anderson's ability to incorporate historical quotes so seamlessly into her own writing. The book has provided so much clarity on events that have been muddied by history textbooks or the media. The Second gives context to the true danger that lies in the Second Amendment, and presents a compelling argument for the hypocrisy it exemplifies.

I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to better understand how racism is written into the very fabric of our nation, and how we must work to uproot it permanently.
