Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 by Jordie Bellaire

2.0

I'm really tired of reboots. With this, in particular, I don't feel like I'm getting anything new from the story. Buffy will always be a teenager torn between normalcy and the occult. It's just part of the narrative and unless it's doing something new and innovative, I'd rather just rewatch the show. I can't say I'm thrilled about the reimagining of characters like Anya and Willow. Where is my geeky Willow who blossoms into a wicca badass? She's already kind of cool and hot? And she's queer off the bat which I guess is nice but does that mean no Oz? Anya is an adult? A businesswoman with beef against someone??? The art was great and captured the likeness of the main characters really well. However, the voices for Buffy and Willow seem off. Xander and Giles are pretty spot on but there's a loss of that quirky SoCal lingo that we so loved in the show. I just don't think this series is going to do anything new.
