As a father of a teenage girl that lives on Long Island, this was a deeply uncomfortable read for me, considering the subject matter. And, unlike Miller's [b:Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books|200987258|Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books|Kirsten Miller|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1702307118l/200987258._SX50_.jpg|202853015], which also had some heavy themes but managed a light tone, this book is just dark and unsettling — which I realize, now having finished it, is the point.
