In at the Deep End
by Kate Davies
The story started off a bit slow for me, and Julia was a little hard for me to like in the beginning. But, as the story progressed, I grew very protective of this character! I didn’t know much about this story, except that it was recommended in most “best WLW books to read” lists that I’ve seen, so I was pleasantly surprised with how the story evolves. What starts as a comedic, kind of raunchy telling of a young woman coming to terms with and exploring her sexuality, turns into a really interesting portrayal of some of the issues that a queer woman may face after coming out, including being in an unhealthy relationship. I read most of this book at work, and there were multiple times that I had to choke back laughter or glance over my shoulders to make sure no one was sharing in Julia’s sexual encounters with me. All in all, I enjoyed the story, and I was very happy with the ending.
