Hearts Overboard
by Becky Dean
Pretty standard young adult love story. I was expecting more of an enemies-to-lovers with funny banter and aggression, but it wasn’t really in the nature of either main character to behave that way.
I loved reading about a female main character who was into STEAM (LEGOs, engineering, science).
I wish the male main character had the same energy as a Peter Kavinsky or Wes Bennett. He was just…fine.
A lot of repeated information. I was skimming more than holding an interest. Too many repeated instances of hearing about Savannah’s fear of bears and how brushing up against Tanner gave her a “tingle”. I probably read 20 pages worth of those two descriptions alone.
There were SO MANY programs/excursions that were only lightly developed. I think it would’ve been better if the cruise was a week long (rather than two) and focused on three main events that really shaped the two characters with a lot of plot/storyline. Having 10 events barely scratching the surface was a bit of a letdown.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ because I know it’s young adult and that’s why it felt on the weaker side.
