The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong
5.0
5 stars from me for this cozy high fantasy (no romance to be seen-*gasp*). Found family adventure and major commentary on sense of identity as the main character was born in a neighboring country but was mostly raised in her current country of residence where she lives a nomadic lifestyle. She’s seen as other and yet doesn’t have that full knowledge/experience of her home language or customs.
She also is a seer, something she keeps
under wraps due to her power putting her at risk for getting conscripted to a government she’s not sure how to feel about. I loved the complexity of acting on the greater good vs individuals vs the true meaning of “good” when she helps a man find his lost daughter (and picks up 2 others along the way, 3 if you count the cat).
