When the Bough Breaks by Jonathan Kellerman

3.0

Hmm, this was a daft one. I only finished it recently, and I'm already having dificulty recalling what it was about.

Anyhow, this book introduces Alex Delaware (who went on to become the main protagonist of a number of Kellerman books). He's a young, retired child psychologist (he invested well and worked hard), who was called in by the police prior to the start of this book to aid in a child molestation series.

Because of that previous case, he's brought into this case to aid a preadolescent child in recalling the details of the getaway of murderers she might have seen. This entree into the investigation leads him to investigate a number of leads he feels are important (a respected surgeon, a college campus and a children's home for example), as he aids in tracking down the killer.

All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't Charles Dickens either. It rattles along at a decent rate (I read it quickly), but... it's a bit dark in places (which is ok), there's a little too much back story (which is understandable, given its' position in the series), and it's a little bit forgettable.
