This one is.... Heavy. It took me a long time to get through, because it weighed heavy on me and I had to space out my reading. Give yourself time with this.
It's a beautifully told story, and the explorations of love and faith and purpose were so intricately done. It's simply written, but so gorgeous.
I haven't heard many perspectives from the Italian Jewish experience during WWII, nor much about the wider Italian WWII experience either, so it was really interesting to get this perspective, and a slice of history I don't know much about.
The only reason it's not a full five stars for me is just how quickly everything wraps up. I understand why it's written that way, but for as much pain as Eva and Angelo go through, I would have loved to get a longer taste of their joy.
