Cat Rector did a PHENOMENAL job writing this book! I could not get enough.

There us clearly something mysterious going on in Penny Harbor - but the residents just chalk it up to how things are in the area. When Laurel goes on a late night walk to get away from her abusive husband, she meets an outsider named Spencer, a vampire who she quickly befriends. As the duo forms a bond, things are gradually shifting in the Harbor… can they work through their trauma and survive the impending events?

Rector's writing transported me right into the story, making me feel as though I was there. Laurel and Spencer are such loveable characters, making you only wish for their safety and happiness. Having grown up in a small town, I entirely understand how people chalk things up to "that's just how things are around here", as well as the feeling of being trapped there, which made the book very relatable for me.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
