The Viscount Who Loved Me
by Julia Quinn
This one was worse than the first. Finishing it took a lot of effort. One major reason is I am probably not the target audience for this book. I didn’t enjoy the power imbalance between Kate and Anthony. And, although I actually really liked his character in book one, I found him intolerable in this book. He and Kate spent most of their time bickering in this book. I honestly can’t tell you why they are attracted to each other. The power imbalance as it was translated into their sexual relationship was off-putting to me. I also found the whole “Kate finds out why she’s scared of storms and is now healed of her trauma” subplot incredibly worthy of a few eye rolls. The book is from the turn of the century and is clearly of its time when it comes to plot devices, its approach to mental health, etc… Just sad.
