This was...not good. There were a number of sections that could've used an editor to chop sections, fix tense issues, and spot pronoun/wording errors. I didn't like knowing Michael's dead name and found it immensely unnecessary to the plot. His transness and story felt more like a device to move along Raya's plot arc than as their own individual personhood. Raya's connection to Orpheus felt loose and forced at best. The quick acceptance of the doctor's cruelty by these kids felt too quick to happen. The mom issues never resolves. Overall, felt somehow too slow for a novelette.
