Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron
5.0
Ok, so this book was so incredibly fun to read! I loved seeing the pictures of Dewey (he looks so much like our very own Zoolander!) and hearing how Vicki described their relationship. I liked the glimpses into Vicki's life and past, the lessons she has learned throughout.
Dewey certainly sounds like a remarkable guy, and if you didn't cry at the end, what do you have in the center of your chest if not a heart?
Also LOVED LOVED LOVED that she described the fortitude of her farming community through the drastic changes in US farming policy and farming practices over the last 3 decades. An intimate look at food politics in real life!
I'm sad for Vicki - that she lost her best friend, confidante, and treasured pet, that she didn't ever seem to find true love or even any lasting romantic relationships, and that she has dealt with more health issues than anyone could ever be expected to endure. But she sounded so hopeful at the end! How proud she must be for all the happiness Dewey and Vicki's library brought to the town of Spencer, northwest Iowa, the US, and the world! Who said one person (and one cat!) can't make an amazing difference...
