The Lunar Chronicles Boxed Set: Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest, Winter by Marissa Meyer

Did not finish book. Stopped at 80%.
I realize the books are a decade old at this point, but they're kind of painfully heterosexual (apart from one Evil Bisexual, I guess) and a lot of the stuff around Cinder is unfortunately orientalist—like, c'mon, her stepsisters have the most stereotypical names, she herself
turns out to be not Asian at all but from the moon instead
, and also I cannot envision any future where all of East Asia is willing to become one empire with a Japanese emperor. You'd have to include a whole worldbuilding segment of "and then Japan apologized for all the war crimes"

(Listen, I'm a weeb, but my family is also from Nanjing. I need the war crimes addressed.)

The last part really should have kept my interest given that I'm a sucker for girls instigating revolutions, but... well, I dunno. The evil queen's whole thing felt too contrived, and I expect a little more politics from my politics, you know?
