A thoughtful and subtle look at church control, small town politics and identity. Not as moving as I had expected given the high praise it has recieved. I wasn't gripped the central character - Bill Furlong. But I suppose that's the point, that following your conscience doesn't have to be an enormous or bold and exciting moment, and that heroism can be quiet and understated.

Atmospheric, compelling, and packing a punch for the right reader, but I found myself wishing for more.
