A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

2.0

It took me so long to finish this book. Honestly, the book itself is almost just too long. It does not help you want to read it more.
I think in general it has some very good things and some things I just don’t like, especially the characters. Some I am really interested in, so for example Sansa and Tyrion, but others I really do not care about, such as Theon and Catelyn. It just makes it a bit difficult to read, because you have to go through chapters you do not care about. Also, Daenerys seems to be randomly put into it, and while I understand that she will play a bigger role and actually interact with the other characters later, it now feels a bit random.
There are also just too many characters. While I am able to remember the main ones, a lot of the side characters are starting to blend into one another. I honestly most of the time can’t remember whether I’ve read about people before or whether that is their first appearance.
I genuinely thought that they said Ramsay had been killed, but then he did turn up at the end.

The problem I also had was that the book was working towards a battle, and then the battle was just not that well-written.
Writing it from the point of view of Davos was just not the right choice, because he almost seems to care more about the ships than the actual people.

So overall, not the biggest fan. I was able to get through it and I did like some moments, but overall a bit disappointing. Hopefully, the next book will be better.
