The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

5.0

I stand by my statement that this is one of the best books ever written. It is certainly at the very least a modern classic and a must-read.

Zusak had the incredible idea to have this story narrated and written by death himself, and I think this is the concept that adds most to this book. The author writes expertly about Nazi Germany and his historical accuracy is excellent. Not only did this book teach me about the past, but it also gave me so much more. The messages and lessons that I was able to take away from this book were important.

I cared so much about the characters in this book (a testament to the amazing writing), and Zusak was able to pull so many different emotions from me throughout the book.

This is a 5/5 star read, and I think everyone should read it, ages 12+.
