All-New X-Men, Volume 7: The Utopians by
1.0
I don't even know what to do with this volume. It ties in heavily with the Black Vortex crossover event, which 1) I haven't read; and 2) Not sure why I should care as clearly A Lot Has Happened since the last time I encountered the other heroes on the other end of the Black Vortex event. And I'm not even sure how the X-Men got mixed up in this mess to begin with, for that matter.
The volume ends with a fun if standard X-Men story investigating the Utopians, and how SHIELD and the rest of the world don't give mutants a fair shake, and then the issue where we learn a secret that Bobby has been hiding. I loved the interplay between him and Jean Grey in that issue, and also how the rest of the X-Men handle the surrounding conversation. Totally the highlight of the volume for me.
But overall, that's 1 out of 6 included issues that are actually worth reading. Which is a pity as I love the issue art they chose for the cover here. Bendis' run of the All-New X-Men ends with a whimper.
