This book came highly praised and did not disappoint. I love a good military fantasy and Legend by David Gemmell certainly lives up to its name. I went into the story imagining that it would all be told from the perspective of Druss, the legendary Axman of the Drenai, his name all but worshipped in a kingdom that he has fought to protect his entire life. At the age of sixty, he is long past his prime... or so you might think.
What I was not expecting and absolutely loved was the cast standing alongside Druss. There are so many interesting characters in this novel, and I liked so many of them! They were all unique and gripping, and there wasn't a single POV that I didn't care about or wanted to skip through.
The perfect balance between the impending battle action, the active battle, and the aftermaths was interspersed with snippets of the lives of each character, their interactions with each other were everything from entertaining to heartbreaking.
I can definitely see this book becoming a re-read many times in the future.
