achavez47 's review for:

White Fire by Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
5.0

I really enjoyed White Fire. Yes, Corrie takes a front seat, but that is okay really. It is great to experience Pendergast from the outside looking in as we did in books of old.

I liked the setting. Not so much the small town thing, but the cold, snowy thing. It is fun to see our fave SA in an environment that he is NOT suited to. Watching him suffer with the cold is rather fun, but Preston and Child don't dwell on it. I just found it endearing.

Another reviewer was more critical about Corrie and some of the stupid things she does in the novel. Yes, she does some stupid things and you know what? She is 20 years old. Most 20-year-olds do stupid things. I had no problem with that. She is head-strong and has had a tough go at being accepted or even wanting to be accepted. She is trying really hard, too hard. She wants success on her own terms and she pays the price for not listening to those who have been there and done that.

Spoilers

Only issues I had...I knew "who done it" way too early, but in these novels that is usually a secondary thing. And for god sake Doug and Linc...quit killing dogs! grrr

Does someone with Mercury poisoning really look so horrific that someone would rather be burned to death than get near them? Did I miss something there?

Would a worldly man like Conan Doyle be so absolutely horrified by the miners tale that he would go be sick in the gents? I mean, it is icky, but really?

These are minor things. I loved the story and the characters. Stacy is fun, will we be seeing her again??

Does someone with Mercury
