Teach Me by Alexandria House

5.0

This is my first time reading (listening to) Alexandria House. I found the book on Audio Escapes. I was hesitant at first because I could not find an ebook, or paperback on Amazon, but figured I would give it a shot. I believe the Audiobook was about 9.5 almost 10 hours long.

I really enjoyed this book. It gives the reader a bit of everything. Love, lust, drama, pain, loyalty, friendship, etc, and it manages to not be overwhelmed with angst. It was steamy and sexy.

I liked that there was an intense attraction between Nate and Nadia, but it didn't turn into Instalove and they didn't divulge their life secrets in the first chapters. Nate didn't automatically let Nadia into his children's lives, and Nadia was not trying to have him meet all of her friends and family right away. They actually held off and worked at the relationship. Once they did decide to move in that direction, it was on.

Both Nate and Nadia had secrets in their pasts that resulted in issues in their present lives. I also liked that they sought therapy when they felt it necessary and there was no stigma attached to that decision.

When Nadia's father made his appearance, it became a laughfest. There was truly ratchet behavior that occurred, but it wasn't so much that it made me want to stop reading. It just was what it was. I liked that Nadia rocked her TWA.

Nate's kids were not perfect, nor were they little angels. They were not bad kids by any stretch of the imagination, but he did struggle with making sure they were properly cared for, and he definitely stepped to the plate. They were just good kids with special needs.

I thought the storyline with its different subplots was good. This book was full of twists and turns. It was great to read (listen to) an African American romance that was not only relatable, but accessed via an audiobook.

The narration was pretty good, but I wish the male narrator had read all of the male scenes and the female narrator had read all of the female scenes. That would be my only complaint if there was one.

I am glad I found this author. I will definitely be looking into finding more of her work. I am hoping that some of the other characters in this book have stories of their own.
