I thought this one was somehow just as good, if not better, than the first.

Ian becoming the central character was nice, with how much I loved him in the first book. Again, Michael Crichton, overall, balanced and built characters super well, constantly shifting from POVs but keeping the breakneck pace. There was another gnarly death for a villainous character that I appreciated, too.

I swear, Michael Crichton could write a textbook just about science and I’d read it as fast. I don’t know how he makes science so exciting; maybe it’s the topics but I think it is in his writing. He just does a phenomenal job.

The action was stellar again. You can absolutely tell he’s been involved with the movie business, because his books read like movies.

His short chapters make for a fun reading experience, too. You can read it in short bursts if you’re like me and read in between deliveries. Lot of page breaks as well.

I just really loved how the story was crafted again. Everything had its place, including stray candy wrappers, and the villain helps the first domino fall and then shit just hits the fan. Plus, the ending was super cool for me personally; I loved the last paragraph.

I’ll be excited to watch this movie again tonight because I remember thinking the film was underrated and, with how well they adapted JP, I hope it’s the same for this one.

It’s cool reading these books, because they have a darker tinge than the movies. It helps with the universe as a whole, knowing you can get so many different levels from each thing and they’re all so good.

I’m excited to read more of his stuff now that I’ve finished his Jurassic Tales.
