Carissa Broadbent is officially an immediate-buy author for me after this one. I read Serpent and the Wings of Night, so I knew I liked her writing style, but the characters in this one were EVERYTHING. Tisaanah and Max were complex and heartbreaking and interesting and the twists and turns were unexpected for me. It felt like a grown-up Shadow and Bone meets From Blood and Ash and I DEVOURED it. Emotionally unprepared for book 2 but dying to know how a resolution is found. 5⭐️ for me for sure!
