Things That Make White People Uncomfortable by Dave Zirin, Michael Bennett
4.0
funny informative lighthearted reflective fast-paced

I think the target audience of this book are folks that know about Bennett and the Seahawks and are looking to open their mind to systemic injustice in the United States and abroad. I am a Seahawks fan so I really enjoyed all the details about conversations between players in the Pete Carroll Super Bowl era. I consider myself a leftist so the material wasn’t challenging to my beliefs per se. But Bennett’s exposition on systemic racism and injustice (among other issues, like forgiveness, towards the end of the book, which was very heartening) as told through his personal story of growing up in Louisiana and his experiences in the NCAA and NFL were really the gem of the book. Only reason I didn’t rate it higher is because he is a new writer and you can tell with the phrasing and repetition, as others have noted. Solid book that was really informative.
