How to Be a Movie Star by TJ Klune

3.0

3.5 stars. I should mention that I did not read the prequel How to be a Normal Person. Also I'm a bit of a prude with stuff like weed. But it sounds like the MC's would respect my prudiness.
Anyways. Josy, our MC, is a very random and special individual who likes to get high. A LOT. In fact sometimes he annoyed me so much I wanted to smack the THC out of his hands and tell him to focus for 2 seconds. Grr. But then he'd lay out his heart and be all sweet and pretty much make me swoon.
Quincy was a bit of an odd duck as well. Suffering through depression and some mental issues he writes monster porn and encourages people to get out of their shell, knowing first hand how hard depression makes that. He becomes like a weird idol for the socially challenged which I think is some kind of ironic. Sometimes his rants got tedious. Other times he had me balling my eyes out with girly tears.
I'm demisexual myself so it was refreshing to read about one. I really like how TJ Klune respects the whole spectrum of sexuality. This book made me laugh and got me in the feels. So overall, thumbs up. I only rate is so low because Josy's nonsensical thoughts and Quincy's overly emotional thoughts got tedious for me at times.
