The Museum of Innocence
by Orhan Pamuk
Boy, it's taken me almost a year to finish this book. I got a paperback copy at the Istanbul airport on my way back and quickly devoured the first hundreds of pages. Pamuk's writing has a magical quality of taking the readers right there in the moment of the story through the simplest descriptions of ordinary objects. I felt like I was walking through the streets of Istanbul in the fifties right there with Kemal and Füsun, falling in love. What I couldn't bear was what came after... but without spoiling anything, it's worth your time to make it to the end.
