Long Live the Beautiful Hearts
by Emma Scott
REVIEW OF BOOK 1&2 IN THE BEAUTIFUL HEARTS DUET
My poor heart is so full right now. The beauty of this magnificent love story is so powerful, so moving and so heartwarming. My words will never be able to give this book justice. The writing was flawless, the characters were so relatable and the turn of events while unpredictable, seemed to fall into place exactly as they should. This was a story of love and a story of friendship. A story of heartache and self loathing but also forgiveness and strength.
This is an atypical love triangle and is based loosely on the play Cyrano de Bergerac (Roxanne starring Steve Martin may be helpful to some people). There are two men in this story but it's quite clear who the hero is from very early in the book and he captured my heart and had me falling into him so so deep. His written and spoken word flowed straight from his heart with passion and fervor and his love for the heroine was all consuming. Yet he held back because he thought himself undeserving of anything good and he put an armour around his heart to protect himself from getting hurt.
These relationships get even more complex with the added layer of the love these men had for each other. This was a bromance like no other! And while at times it felt like one loved one more than the other, I realized by the end that this was a friendship so deep that they pulled from each other's strengths and they were both always there for each other.
There are unexpected heartbreaking moments in this duet that make you question the unfairness in life. The cruelty of situations placed on a man with such a pure and loving heart nearly destroyed me; but the strength and healing of a man who started to fight for what he loved had me undone.
Brace yourself for an emotional hit with this one. There is longing and heartache but there is also sweetness and romance. There is pain and anger but also hope and forgiveness. There is an intense love between two people whose souls called to each other, even before they realized it and a heartwarming friendship that survives above all the pain, betrayal and regret. I cannot recommend these books enough. A top read of 2018!

"I've loved you in a thousand lifetimes. Do you feel it?"
"Yes," she whispered. "I've been loking for you my entire life."
"I'm here."... "I'm right here."

"A twice born man who emerged from his dark forest to light the way for those who come behind him."
