it’s a better, spookier Fall of the House of Usher, featuring 0% incest and 100% fungal horror. imagery is creepy as hell. i physically shuddered at a few of the grosser paragraphs, which is a good sign for a horror novella.
kingfisher’s protagonists are snarky without being insufferable. alex easton as a non-binary narrator is a brilliant choice; the gallacian pronoun system is a cool addition, as is the “sworn soldier” identity.
tl;dr another banger from t. kingfisher
