Flame and Starlight by Dana Isaly

2.0

Alys is a mortal who is captured by Asher and taken to the fae realm. Asher is a broody, tortured fae King who took Alys to protect her from other fae courts who are hunting her. We find out she is part fae but her exact parentage and powers are unknown. Not surprisingly the tenacious, takes no shit Alys is drawn to the withdrawn Asher and he to her. Angst ensues and they fall for each other but the people hunting for Alys won’t stop.

Does this sound familiar? Yeah to me too. This felt like diet ACOTAR. I think there is something here and I genuinely enjoyed reading the book but everything felt reminiscent of books I have read before. It may have something to do with how short it was. Less than 200 KU pages. I don’t think it had enough time to build a world all its own. I will read the next one because cliffhangers get me every time but I wish this first book gave more.
