A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken
Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
I've never read a more affectatious book, where an American writer constantly throws obnoxious Britishisms in your face to highlight the fact that he met C.S. Lewis (which the back of the book and Introduction already go out of their way to hammer in).
Unless you're both super in love with Jesus and haven't read many actually good books, I can't imagine this book being for anyone.
This was given to me as a gift by my religious father in an embarrassingly ham-fisted attempt to trick me into dumping my non-relgious girlfriend (now wife) and back into the arms of his god. (You know; so said loving God doesn't cast me into a lake of fire for eternity 🔥.) The man has since become known as "my estranged father." I guess you could say our relationship evolved.

Graphic: Religious bigotry
Moderate: Sexism
