Never one of my favorites. It’s fine? At least it’s short, really more of a novella, and primarily serves to get Rincewind from the end of Sourcery to Interesting Times. Eric, the teen demonologist, is the worst stereotype of teenage boys, and while he does seem to learn a bit via the “three wishes” paradox, the novel is so short that you never really see the development, and Eric the character never shows up again. So this is fairly entertaining, without any real substance, and like some of the early books, doesn’t have that same sense of angry justice. I do appreciate the idea of someone trying to optimize Hell, and what did Helen of Troy get up to for all those years? But this is probably my least favorite Discworld, if I had to give a ranking
