I've been looking for alternatives to Harry Potter and this book is advertised as being similar to Narnia. It was fine. The story was nice. The kids were nice. The time traveling is interesting, except the way older characters paternalize younger especially female characters when discussing it. I don't think I will share this one with my kid. It was pretty slow and missed opportunities to tackle class and orphan experiences.
