I wanted so desperately to love this book. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the reading. It did give an insightful view of the “background,” but I felt it caused Austen’s heroines (Lizzie and Jane) to appear somewhat heartless and self-consumed.

Also, there were many crass words and curses used. That surprised me. If Goodreads allowed a half of a star, I would rate this book at 3.5.
